50% of the animal hides generated in slaughterhouses worldwide end up in landfills. Did you know why? Demand for leather is falling, driven by the growing popularity of synthetic alternatives - often labelled as ‘vegan’. But here’s the catch: even the so-called ‘next generation’ materials, such as apple or cactus ‘leather’, rely heavily on fossil fuel-based components.

The last few weeks have been freezing cold and the fog has been hanging low. I am longing for brighter, warmer days! Soon, the birds will return from the south, nature will awaken and we can finally spend more time outdoors without getting cold feet and hands.

We are delighted to present the first products from our latest collection. Three timelessly designed leather objects, from small to large, regionally produced and handcrafted from the highest quality materials: A simple and soft tote bag, a mini bag to hang around the neck and a practical cardholder with a strap. In every moment of life, we leave our traces on the path we tread. Similarly, daily use shapes our leather and gives rise to a captivating patina that tells our unique story.

At the end of July we spent a few days in and around Porto, visiting a tannery and manufactory. The trip was wonderful. The meetings with our new partners were not only informative, but also warm and fulfilling. We can’t wait to see the new designs come to life, get excited! 

July was all about slowing down for us. We packed our bags and brought the kids to spend a few weeks in the mountains. For us, one of the most beautiful parts of being in nature is leaving the stress of everyday life behind and recharging our batteries.

Summer is showing its sunny side. Everything is blooming in our gardens, we're hand picking a fresh bowl of berries every day, and hopping in the lake on the weekends. We can’t think of a better way to spend the summer! We also have a lot of travels planned during the next few weeks. There are trade shows happening in Paris and in London that we'd like to check out. And we are visiting tanneries and manufacturers to plan the next steps of our new products, soon to launch!  

The last few weeks have been wonderful and interesting. We were able to present MARAI at a number of events and conferences and give insights into our local production. The many nice reactions give us courage and energy to continue, even if sometimes a strong wind blows against us.  

A vegetable tanned Swiss sheepskin is a wonderful base for calm yoga exercises and meditation. It is soft, it is warm and fluffy, and it regulates moisture. The sheepskin double rug is also perfect on a sofa or in the reading corner. Their beauty will bring warmth and coziness to your home.

With the rising demands for „animal and cruelty free leather“ come many misconceptions. First, vegan leather alternatives are commonly made from petroleum-based components and synthetic materials.⁠

In the fashion industry, trends and prices determine how products are designed and brought to market. Often the supply chains are very long and opaque, and the production of many goods takes place at the expense of people and nature. This is partly the case with the production of leather.
