MOTHERHOOD - A chat with Heidi and Lari
MOTHERHOOD — Between Roots and Wings
An afternoon with Heidi and Lari from the MARAI Community
Some encounters don't just leave an impression, but a feeling that stays with you. Our afternoon with Heidi and Lari was just like that.
They walk through the meadow as if it's the most natural place in the world for them – side by side, perfectly in sync, and so comfortable with each other. Lari moves effortlessly, her leather pants following her every move, soft and lively, without any stiffness. Nothing about them looks new or like she's being careful. They're well-worn, just a natural part of her – exactly like how she embraces her place in life.
Heidi laughs a lot, with that open, uninhibited laugh that's infectious but never overbearing. Our Mini Bag swings along by her side, close to her body, as if it had always belonged there. It doesn't look like an accessory, but more like something that's stuck around – shaped by time, by journeys, and by everything that's been carried inside it.
There's nothing staged or carefully planned. You can feel how natural it is right away.
Heidi never tied her kids down with rules; she connected with them through trust. She wasn't about holding them back, but about creating a space where they could always come back to. This idea has really stuck. Today, you don't see it in big speeches, but in how Lari moves, how she makes choices, and how she is as a mom herself.
“When you've experienced care, you pass it on”, she says.
And that's exactly what's going on here. It's not a repeat, but more like things moving forward. Lari took on a lot, but she also made sure to choose her own way. She didn't turn into her mom, and that's actually what makes their connection so strong.
As they stand still, Heidi instinctively reaches for Lari's hair and starts braiding it. The scrunchie wraps around, bringing everything together, giving it shape without being too tight. It's a quiet, familiar motion – seemingly small in that moment, but really shaped by years of being close.
What began as being held has long since turned into a mutual support.
Motherhood here isn't just a role; it's a relationship that keeps changing but never breaks. You can be close and let go at the same time, without them getting in each other's way. Lari really nails it: “You always pass something on, but everyone lives it their own way.“
This clarity really lasts throughout the afternoon. It's not about chasing ideals or always doing things perfectly. Instead, it's about being present, standing by your choices, and letting trust naturally grow.
They're sure their bond will last, even when life keeps changing. The materials they choose reflect this same spirit. We're talking about leather that isn't meant to stay perfect, but rather to go with the flow. It adapts, gets softer, shows its unique story, and that's exactly what gives it real character.
Just like a relationship, these pieces evolve over time, yet they always stay true to their origins. Every crease, every movement becomes a part of their unique character.
"What stays with you are the feelings," says Heidi.
And as they keep going, it becomes super clear that this is totally true. It's not just about each single moment, but what those moments leave with you. That trust. That warmth. That feeling of knowing a connection doesn't have to be held tight to stick around.
In the end, there's no perfect picture of motherhood. Just a real one.
It's something that moves, grows, and leaves its mark – on people and on everything that stays with them over time.
