Editorial Letter April Edition: Bloom Anyway
Some months start quietly. And then there are months like this one. Over the past few weeks, we've really looked inward. We've asked questions, pulled things apart, rearranged them, doubted, understood, and even scrapped some ideas. It was necessary. It was honest. And maybe a little tough, too. Not just for us, but everywhere. The world doesn't really feel like a fresh start right now. More like a pause. Like feeling overwhelmed. Like a deep sadness about the world that's hard to just push aside anymore.
And that's exactly where we're starting in April. We're not asking another question; we're making a decision.
Bloom anyway.
Not because everything's perfect. Not because it's easy. But we do it anyway. When we started MARAI, we always had this idea that materials deserve a second chance, a new story. That things that already exist don't just have to be thrown away or forgotten. That even with something as old as leather, we can rethink things, do things differently, and create with more care. Vegetable-tanned, carefully picked, rescued, and transformed. Maybe that's exactly what 'Bloom anyway' is all about.
Moving forward doesn't always have to be loud. But it's always consistent.
April isn't about shutting out the world. It's about not letting it paralyze you. Like flowers pushing through asphalt. Like something delicate that just won't be stopped. Like ideas that stick around, even when everything says they shouldn't. Like all of us when we decide to keep going.
For us, this 'despite everything' really shines through in the things we create.
This month, we're putting the spotlight on leather, but not just as a material. Instead, we're looking at it as something we can learn from.
Leather reminds us to just *be*, instead of always trying to *become* something. It responds to everything it encounters: touch, water, time. It changes, but never loses itself. It doesn't see marks as flaws; instead, it wears them with a natural confidence that almost looks proud. Every crease, every subtle shade tells you it's lived a life, not just been owned.
Maybe that's exactly the attitude we need right now.
Our bags are made with this idea in mind too. They're not meant to stay perfect and untouched. Instead, they want to join you on your adventures, adapting, getting softer, and becoming truly yours. Every time you use them, set them down, or just go about your day, they develop a unique story that can't be copied. Your bag won't look exactly like it did on day one – and that's actually what makes it so valuable.
It's not about being perfect; it's about being present. It's about things that get to stick around, especially because they change. And who knows, maybe we're already working on something new behind the scenes. Something that's grown from your feedback, your thoughts, your needs, and your journeys. Nothing rushed or loud, but something that's developed naturally, just like everything we believe in.
But for now, we're staying here.
It's about what's real.
And what grows, even when you least expect it.
Bloom anyway.
Let's not stand still or completely pull back. Let's keep growing in our own way; maybe quietly, sometimes subtly, but with an unstoppable force. Just like flowers pushing their way through cracks in the asphalt, reaching for the light, not letting anything get in their way.
xx
