Thoughts on the Beginning of Spring
Today is the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. Solstices are an incredibly important time for us to take a moment to reflect upon our pasts, present, and futures.
As we traced back on our personal notes from the last years, we realised how many things have been unfolding at a rapid rate over the last two years. Sometimes, it becomes unbearable to keep up with so much news, so much change, so much pain. Nonetheless, the Earth continues its never ending rotation in circular motion, bringing us closer to The Sun yet again. We are confronted with a rhythm we must adapt to: the changing of seasons.
This year, we are thinking about all of the circular process which effect our lives, which inspire the practices we integrate into our daily work. One of the most important being Life and Death. Commonly, western rhetoric regards life and death as a beginning and an end. This misconception lends to so much linearity and disregard. We have gained so much from learning about the circularity of life in all regards. Death as a gift, a chance for regeneration, and chance for blossoms of life. We see opportunity in death, a chance for new life.
The hides our products use are an honour to both life and death, a rebirth, a continuation of the animals' lives. We make sure that the hides are not burnt and process them into beautiful leather, using only plant extracts. We leave the leather in its pure form: Every hide is unique with slight imperfections, showing scars, mosquito bites and wrinkles. We make our products in respect for the time must again die, knowing that what does get left behind isn’t a poison, but rather, a starting point for another stage of life.
