Sustainable and meaningful gift ideas - 2022
Wow, how time flies - already the year is coming to an end again. We look back on a very moving and beautiful 2022. The launch of MARAI was just over a year ago and we are very happy and proud that we were able to reach so many people with our story during this time.
We are more than thrilled that you are joining us on our journey and would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
In three weeks it will already be Christmas, and maybe you are still looking for one or two gifts for your loved ones. Even in difficult times it is nice to give some light and hope. We've given it some thought and present our gift ideas in the latest Journal post on our website. They include books worth reading, some magic, art or even meaningful things for the little ones.
You will also find many beautiful things in our shop that will look good under any Christmas tree and bring joy for a long time.
We send you all the love for this holiday season and wish you many moments of peace and joy.
Support an organization that works for a more just society:
La Via Campesina advocates for a more just agricultural and food system.
Slow Factory is committed to environmental and social justice.
Fibershed promotes the regional production of textiles and everyday products from natural fibers.
Public Eye works for a more just world and fights against human rights violations.
Gift a class. Doing something with the hands is beautiful, calming and inspiring. Here are a few ideas:
The Modern Sewing Co. offers an online workshop for beginners.
Räubersachen has developed an online course for textile hand repairs. Similar courses in English are available at SewingSmith.
Various local providers such as Anna&Juan from Zurich organize courses on topics such as knitting, dyeing with plants or hand embroidery.
Art connects. And special works of art are loved by everyone:
Laxmi Hussain paints beautiful pictures between abstraction and reality.
AAAA is a cooperation of artisans from Mali that produces textile totem from Bogolan.
Amy Dov Studio creates unique objects from clay.
Yasmin Bawa creates sculptures and furniture from natural materials such as hemp.
The following shops offer beautiful one-of-a-kind items for a special person:
Accidente con Flores makes unique pieces to wear and look at in Mallorca.
Momosan Shop presents a beautiful selection of home goods and objects made by talented craftsmen from all over the world.
Coração Alecrim offers unique items from Portuguese artisans.
Mo Geldhauser sells beautiful products for the food preparation and for dining.
You can never go wrong with something warm made of wool for the upcoming winter and many more to come:
ound makes wonderful knitwear from fine high quality wool.
chandam produces knitwear from french merino wool.
Norlha makes unique knitwear from Tibetan yak wool.
Our fur collars keep you warm in the cool season and are cuddly soft.
We like books that inspire to do-it-yourself or to think. Here are a few ideas (partly only in German or English):
A Handbook to Repairing Clothes and Textiles by Anna Carlile.
Life After Progress: Technology, Community and the New Economy by Helena Norberg-Hodge.
All about Love by Bell Hooks.
Mend & Patch - A Handbook to Repairing Clothes and Textiles by Kerstin Neumüller.
For the children and also older comic lovers: Sapiens By Yuval Noah Harari.
For the little ones, only the best - from nature. These stores offer wonderful, responsibly made products:
wolleli is a store for ecological children's clothing (and more) - for small and big minimalists.
At Seidenkinder you will find Waldorf inspired products that have been made in harmony with nature.
AHOI is a children's store with a focus on inclusion, diversity and sustainability.
Some magic for the home is balm for the soul in the dark season:
Dried flowers from la fleur douce shine in the most beautiful colors - all year around.
Collaboration with Earth processes regional sheep's wool into cozy wool rugs.
Always perfect and suitable everywhere: a fluffy sheepskin.
We love candles, especially in winter. You can find beautiful beeswax candles at WAX Atelier, Slow Goods or Atelier Hop. And copito offers a course to make your own beeswax candles.
But the most beautiful gift of all gifts: time. So many people feel stressed, overwhelmed and burned out. Take some time and do something for a loved one. Whether it's shopping, cooking, watching the kids - the possibilities are endless. Going on a trip together, to a museum, on a walk, or simply going out to eat and spending time together are not only wonderful experiences, but above all simply worth much more than anything else.
We wish you wonderful holiday season!
